EESSI is an IT system that helps social security institutions across the EU exchange information more rapidly and securely, as required by the EU rules on social security coordination. At the moment most exchanges are paper-based: these are going to be replaced by electronic exchanges in the coming years, as Member States progress with connecting to EESSI.

The main objective of the project is to provide cross border services among EU citizens to: i) reach seamless exchange of health related and social insurance information over the same secure Network with respect to the exchange of financial information easing the way of giving the citizen and administrations the information needed in a quick and timely way, ii) secure exchange of information by enhancing security measures, reducing the frequency of errors and fraud and iii) provide health care and social insurance and family benefits personnel with information that will increase accessibility, productivity and the quality of the services to the public [].
